#28: Marty Maybin

Professional Soccer, Competing with Yourself, and Having Fun Off the Field

Welcome to another episode of Sauce Talk - a podcast about sports, the mind, and living well in general. Today’s podcast an athlete profile episode with Marty Maybin.

Marty grew up in Northern Ireland and accepted a scholarship to play soccer for Regis University in 2010. In his time at Regis he accomplished the following:

  • All Time Leading Goal Scorer.

  • All Time Points Leader (Goals and Assists).

  • Only Regis Men’s Soccer player to be named South Central Region Player of the Year.

  • Three Time All-American.

  • Led Regis to two RMAC regular season championships and two NCAA tournament appearances.

  • Led Regis Men’s Soccer to its first ever Elite-8 appearance.

He also has many all-region and all-conference honors, as well as single season statistical records.

After Regis, Marty went on to play professionally for The Colorado Springs Switchbacks and with the Carrick Rangers F.C. in Ireland.

Marty’s Highlights

In this episode we discuss Marty’s journey from Ireland to the US, and playing pro soccer. We talk about Marty’s attitude on and off the field, falling short of expectations as a freshman and then bouncing back as a sophomore, finding confidence, partying, and other topics.
