#25: Coach Brady Bergeson

The Principles of a Successful Organization

Welcome to another episode of Sauce Talk, a podcast about sports, the mind, and living well in general. Today’s podcast is an interview with Coach Brady Bergeson.

Coach Bergeson’s first head coaching position was with Western Oregon University in 2011. In his first year at Western Oregon, Bergeson led the team to a program best 4th place finish in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with an 18-10 overall record. In his fourth and final season at Western Oregon he led the Wolves to their first ever GNAC regular season title and their first ever NCAA Division II tournament appearance.

In 2015 he accepted the head coaching position at Regis University, and in three short years led Regis to its first ever RMAC Tournament Championship, and its first NCAA tournament game victory since 1996. Coach Bergeson is entering his 6th season as head coach of Regis after 4 straight RMAC Tournament appearances.

In this episode we discuss Brady’s career path, and then I ask him questions about his coaching philosophies - structuring his program around competition, the important skill of clear evaluation, facing difficult truths, “the right people on the bus” principle, cultivating clear and honest communication, spending your time and attention deliberately, and other topics.
