#23: Rex Grayner

Navigating the College Athletic Recruiting Process

Welcome to another episode of Sauce Talk, a podcast about sports, meditation, mental life, and living well in general. Today’s podcast is an interview with Rex Grayner.

Rex is the founder and owner of Student Athlete Showcase, a company that helps young athletes navigate the college recruiting process and find the right fit. After struggling to make the right connections and worrying about my lack of interest from college coaches, my Dad signed me up for SAS before my Senior season. Rex and his staff took the time to get to know me personally. He asked questions about my goals in college, and he helped me put together a college recruiting plan. With the help of SAS my situation improved from minimal interest to 7 official visits and multiple scholarship offers within months.

In this episode we discuss Rex’s background as an athlete, the formation of his company SAS, why athletes need to market themselves, the uncertainties of the recruiting process during the pandemic, his work with international students, the prevalence of transferring and the benefits of toughing it out with your current school, paying for camps and showcases in the hopes of getting recruited, the friction between status and fit, the three components of a college experience, and other topics.
