#21: Forrest Kollar

The Mental Training of Professional Poker

Welcome to another episode of Sauce Talk, a podcast about sports, meditation, mental life, and living well in general. Today’s podcast is an interview with Forrest Kollar.

Forrest was an elite waterpolo player and led Ashland High School to multiple state championships. Forrest studied Biology and Human Philosophy and minored in Chemistry in college. Since college he’s been playing professional poker and traveling with his winnings.

In this conversation we speak about how poker helps you become process oriented, going on tilt on and off the poker table, being fooled by variance and thinking statistically, meditation in relationship to poker, the balance between emotions and rationality, mistakes that amateur poker players make, and the pros and cons of taking an alternative and risky life path.

Episode Notes:

Maria Konnikova and Sean Carroll podcast on poker.
